Daily Bible Reading:
Psalm 50:1-15, Luke 22:1-38, Joshua 3, 4 & 5:1-12
So they began to argue among themselves which of them it could be who was going to do it. Then a dispute also arose among them about who should be considered the greatest. (Luke 22:23, 24)
These verses are almost oxymoronic. In one moment, the disciples are trying to figure out who could do such a terrible thing. To betray the Lord. How could anyone. . .? In the next breath they are arguing over who is the best of the disciples. Who is greatest? How quickly they become self-centered. I find that more often than I care to admit I do the same thing. I wring my hands over a terrible situation and in a moment's notice I'm no longer thinking about the terrible situation but about my own needs. Lord forgive me of my selfishness.
